Could Lump On Left Side Of An Alcoholic Person Be A Goiter?

uncle russell is an alcoholic and claims the lump on his left side is a goiter. He said his doctor told him to put a tight rubber band around it and it will fall off. He also said it has nothing to do with how much he drinks. I can t see anything definitive online...do you have an answer? Cheers, Darla

A goiter is not treated by applying any force to the area.

If he does have a goiter then his doctor will determine if his thyroid levels are normal.

It is possible that the mass is not related to the thyroid but another structure in the neck.
