Could Meth Use Cause Headache And Potassium Level Of 2.5?

My daughter was hospitalized this week due to severe headaches and potassium level of 2.5. i have heard she uses meth and marijuana. The doctor spoke to her alone twice-about recreational drugs. she admitted the marijuana use to me and denied the other. Could meth use cause these severe symptoms?

Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

The methamphetamine causes severe sympathetic stimulation which can lead to hypokalemia (low potassium). The degree of reduction depends on the amount of intake and its duration. Most often low potassium results in individuals of acute toxicity of meth and very rare for chronic users.

To conclude meth abuse can cause low potassium provided it was either acute or she ingested large amount.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
