Hello,

Let me first summarize the symptoms of your baby:
1) High fever
2) Easy fatigability

As long as the following are normal, you can manage the baby at home:
1) Baby accepting feeds
2) No vomiting, no diarrhea
3) No signs of dehydration like sunken eyeballs, drying of lips, depressed soft spot
4) No vacant looks
5) No episodes of seizures
6) Skin turgor I'd normal
7) Normal passing of urine

You mentioned of giving Calpol and Ibuprofen, please give Calpol only. That will be enough. Don't give both. Make baby drink more water or milk. Keep checking baby for any ominous signs I mentioned above. Fever comes down with Calpol. Please check the temperature with a thermometer and note the recordings. If the fever doesn't subside or goes above 102 degrees Fahrenheit, kindly consult a pediatrician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Viral infections are more common now and the cause of it is generally common viruses like the ones in the nasopharyngeal tract. However, make sure to keep her fever under control. The viral fever will take its course in 2-3 days and your child will be better. If there is any focus of infection, we will have to look out for by doing thorough examination of the oral cavity and throat, ear and nose. So kindly visit your pediatrician for the same. But your child will be fine very soon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Vasudha's  Response
Hi,

Though she has viral fever (as the symptoms suggest). She needs regular paracetamol, vitamins and probably anti allergic medicine. In proper dose along with nourishing food in divided meals and kept well hydrated. Please let her take rest. After that take her to her doctor. For prescription of suitable drugs, in suitable doses and for for how many days she needs it (the patient being a child needs to be examined to advise all above details.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
