Could Several Bald Spot On Head Be A Indication Of Alopecia?
Im 16 years old and in the past couple months I ve developed several bald spots on my head. About two months ago i went to the dermatologist who said it was alopecia and gave me shots in my head. They seemed to be working but now im getting more bald spots. One of the bald spots on the top of my head seems to have caved in a bit. I have also been on my period for 16 days now and still going. What is happening to me?
Seems to be suffering from Alopecia Areata. Its an autoimmune condition in which the patient develops bald patches over the scalp most commonly but it can also involve other body sites like eyebrows, eyelashes and other hairy areas of the body.
Sometimes hair regrow on their own but most of the times treatment is warranted.
Various options available are: >Intralesional Steroids >Topical Steroids >Topical Minoxidil >Topical Tacrolimus >Topical Anthralin >Topical Vit D analogues
Intralesional steroids is the first line of treatment and usually hair regrow after 2 OR 3 injections.
Caving in is due to atrophy which occurs when the injection is put in too deep OR large amounts of the drug is injected at the same site. It is usually reversible in a few months.
Some patients continue to develop new spots as well. This can happen but eventually the new spots stop coming.
I usually combine 5% minoxidil along with Intralesional Steroids which enhances the efficacy and produces faster results.
hope this helps
take care
