Could Severe Itching With Yellow Substance In Navel Be A Matter Of Concern?

I noticed my two year old itching her belly button every now and then and when I looked at it there was a yellow crust and it was kind of red. I didnt smell it so I dont know if it had a bad smell, and I was wondering if it was something that needed immediate medical care

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I have gone through your son medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Having a yellow thing as you call it on your son's navel is showing impurities.

However, as he is having severe itching, then it is suggestive for possible infection.

I advise to schedule an appointment with pediatrician for further evaluation. Until then, I advise to :
- wash the navel with warm water and soap
- dry it well and keep it always dry
- apply medicated powder

All the best!
