Could Severe Pain In Neck And Headaches Be Due To High Spondylitis?

My father is 68 years old and a cardiac patient. He is having RBBB and undergoing medication for last 10 years. Last December he had syncope and evaluated as Vasovegal Attack. Since last week he felt severe pain in back neck and headache. X-Ray shows high spondelosys. But from last couple of days the pain increased with fever (went upto 102 deg F). Today he had tremedous shiverring. Also making irrelevant comments, failing to remember recently happened activities. Blood test for Malaria results negative. Please suggest any proabable cause or any further test to be done. Doctor checked him did not give any antibiotic yet, only having calpol 500 (paracitamol). Any advise is highly appreciated.
