Could Soreness In Mouth And Tongue Be Due To Bactrim?
I am a 69 year old female. I had the flu 10 days ago and was allergic to Theraflu. I went back to my doctor this past Monday (3-23-2015) , when I had a bladder infection. I was given bactrim ds 800-160 tabs. Yesterday I started noticing a sore feeling in my mouth and tongue. Today it is worse. Do you think this is an allergic reaction to the bactrim? Thanks
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....
As per your complain soreness in mouth and tongue seems to be due to side effect of antibiotic Bactrim DS.. It is a relatively common side effect and will mostly subside once the intake of the medicine is stopped.. In case if the symptoms does not subside even after the withdrawal of medicine you can consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated for other causes of soreness and get treated accordingly.. As of now you can take Ibuprofen to relieve pain and soreness.. Gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.. Do warm saline gargles.. Suck ice and also gargle with cool water.. Avoid hot and spicy food.. Take a multivitamin tablet for 15 days..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
