Could Sudden Swollen, Sore Throat With Serious Cough And Mucus Be Due To Intake Of Bactrim Ds For Sinus Infection?

I was prescribed a Bactrim-ds generic for a sinus infection. But within hours of taking it I developed a swollen and sore throat and a serious cough as if there is fluid in my lungs. These coughs come on suddenly and last a minute or so. They are strong and involve mucus this a side effect to the Bactrim?

Hi,
Bactrim is known to cause these effects on rare occasions. I think it is likely that Bactrim is the cause in your case as the symptoms have started since you have started the drug.
I suggest you speak to your doctor about changing to an alternative for your sinus infection.
Regards,
Dr K A Pottinger,
MBChB FRCA
