Could The ALL Diagnosis Have Been Erroneously Made Due To Other Factors?
Hello I am wondering if my mother has been misdiagnosed with Leukemia. She was recently diagnosed with ALL, however her original white blood cell count was at 6,000, and she was suffering from a tooth abscess infection and was also anemic at the time. We feel that these factors were not considered when she was undergoing her bone barrow biopsy and blood test and were urged to start chemotherapy immediately in fear that she did not have much time. When someone has such a low WBC and is under an infection and is receiving antibiotics, could there have been an error made with a diagnosis of Leukemia?

Leukemia is primarily a disease of the hematopoietic system, and that there may or may not be an excess white blood cell into the peripheral blood.
It is not necessary that counts should always be high.
Leukopenia ( Decrease white cell counts )may be a presenting feature in the early stages of leukemia.
Subleukemic (leukemia with decrease white cell count) forms of acute leukemia are more likely to present as gingival enlargements in adults as you told about tooth infection.
I suggest you to follow your doctor treatment because your doctor is going in right direction.
