Could The Heart Palpitations, Anxiety And Depression Be Due To Thyroid?
Hello,
I am a 30 yr old female. I have a history of thyroid problems, was treated with Radioactive Iodine treatment for graves disease about five years ago. Since then, I have had normal TSH & wasn't on any medicine until this past January, showed my TSH at 9.2 & was put on 50 mcg of levothyroxine. Started getting heart palpitations, terrible anxiety, couldn't eat or sleep, lost weight. Since then have stopped the medicine & have been diagnosed with Hashimotos. Antibodies = 841, but TSH is "normal". Having lots of thryoid "symptoms" however: terrible anxiety, some depression, cold/hot intolerances, pale skin, dry skin, emotional problems, etc. Dr will not treat hashimotos until it effects TSH. Could these problems be caused by this or is something else going on/worth looking into?

Hi,
If your thyroid function are normal this symptoms may not be related to thyroid disease. In my practice i will do a compete thyroid function test (TSH, T3, T4, Free T4, Free T3) to look for rare causes like thyroid hormone resistance. If these are normal other causes like anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, Vitamin D deficiency should be looked into. We dont treat patient based on antibody titres - high value shows that you are at risk of developing hypothyroidism
