Could The Lump In Submandibular Gland Causing Numbness To Tongue Be A Result Of Submandibular Excision?

I had a large lump in submandibular gland, first of Oct my tongue became numb, tingling feeling, I had stones in in gland I had surgery and had submandibular excision in Dec. Is it possible that the stones could have affected the nerves in my tongue, it actually feels like it was burn on cheese pizza all the time on left half of tongue. I also has a brain mass about left ear attached to skull could it be a affecting the nerves to tongue. This feeling happened before and has remained since surgery. Docs @ ER didn't think brain mass was causing it. I am thinking the stones were so bad that they could have damaged the nerves in tongue. No body seems to know or care about damage to my tongue. Any ideas as to what I can do or what can be done to fix it or is it something I am going to have to live with

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding loss of sensation on half of tongue after surgery for submandibular gland. You are also having a mass in your ear attached to bone.

Here I would like to say that fibres for taste sensation are passing through our middle ear along with chorda tympani nerve, therefore any tumour of ear if involving this chorda tympani nerve may develop loss of sensation for taste. Similarly lingual nerve carry distal part of taste fibres may also be some times gets involve in tumour and accidentaly get damage in surgery thus loss of taste sensation develops. This is not supposed as negligence of surgeon. In due course of time taste sensation from opposite side of tngue spreads to a large extent on the affected side and you will get relief.

Regards.
