Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on your description, your symptoms could be due to soft tissue inflammation of the involved joint. It is unlikely to be a torn tendon as the respective movements of the involved finger will be diminished or absent in case of a torn tendon.

The general treatment guidelines for your condition are as follows -

- Give adequate rest to the inflammed joint and avoid any movement that produces pain
- short term immobilization of the involved joint in the form of finger splint may be helpful in reducing the inflammation
- Ice compressions over the affected area once in 2-3 hours
- Keep moving your fingers most of the times in a day and keep the hand in elevation
- Use simple antiinflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve as needed.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
