Could The Stretching Exercise Be The Cause Of Arm Pain?
I have been hanging from my hands at the gym by holding onto the top bars of the warm up cage and then curling my legs up so all my weight was being supported by my arms and hands. This warm up stretching exercise eliminated the periodic hamstring camping problems that I was experiencing. I have been doing this stretching exercise for about 6 months and recently I have developed pain in my right upper arm, forearm and hand. The physical therapist has used heat and ultrasonic massage along with neck traction but with no positive results. My GP has prescribed a hydrocodone which provides only temporary relief. I have ordered an inversion table which I hope might give me some relief. Could the stretching exercise at the gym be the cause of my arm pain? Is there any other treatment which would or eliminate my arm pain?
As per your symptom and history there is possibility of acute muscle spasm in neck or there can be cervical disc compression. Due to compression of this nerve root there is pain associated with it.
For these symptoms muscle relaxant with analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started consulting your treating doctor. Till time take rest and continue analgesic available over the counter take rest, and hot fomentation. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. You may need to do MRI cervical spine if symptoms persist. I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
Yes this can be due to excessive stretch at gym.
