Could The Whooshing Sound Have Been Pulsatile Tinnitus?

I recently was diagnosed with bronchitis. I was given antibiotics for it and I have been taking them for about three days. The period of time (2 weeks) I suffered from the symptoms of the bronchitis without going to the doctor included the development of a whooshing or rushing sound in my left ear. I ve been looking this symptom up and I was wondering whether or not it was pulsatile tinnitus and if this symptom is common with upper respiratory tract infection.

Hi,

The way you are describing it, the possibility of tinnitus is more likely. And tinnitus is common after viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI.)

No specific treatment is required for tinnitus except symptomatic treatment for URTI. So do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.

Take antihistamine drug like levocetirizine or fexofenadine. Don't worry, you will be alright in 1 week. If tinnitus is persistent after 1 week then consult ENT doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
