Could Tightening In Chest Muscles Be Due To Depression And Anxiety?

Recently, when I go out drinking alcohol, I feel a tightening in my chest and a feeling that I can not breath. It lasts about 5-6 minutes and is now starting to happen more frequently. I have just been diagnosed with moderate depression and anxiety. Is this a cause of this? How would I make it stop?

Hi,

Chest tightness often occur right before or during an anxiety attack. It may also occur with no anxiety. Most times chest tightness in anxiety due to the rapid breathing or gas trouble or may be due to muscle strain. It is usually harmless.

The easiest way to determine if you are suffering from anxiety induced chest tightness is by ruling out any cardiac or lung disease. Only a physician can rule out these completely. Yoga, Breathing exercise, Meditation helps to reduce anxiety problems.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
