Could Weakness And Shaking In Hands Be Due To Idiopathic Neuropathy?

I have recently been diagnosed with idiopathic neuropathy. I m an amputee and a cancer survivor and last was on chemotherapy (gemcitabine and taxotere) 5 years ago. The diagnosis of idiopathic neuropathy was focused on my right foot and calf where I ve also experienced discoloration and swelling causing some of my medical team to speculate there is a vascular component. This is my brief backstory. What I m emailing about and asking tonight is I have increasingly also got tingling, some weakness and some mild shakiness in both of my hands. I m thinking this is probably a further progression of my idiopathic neuropathy diagnosis but I m not sure. I should also mention that a neurologist tested me and has, for no, ruled out diabetes or MS and I believe Parkinson s. Any suggestions about what I should or could do next? Thanks for your help?

Hi,

The location and movement of a pain gives clues as to what is going on. So, the distribution of the affected nerves generally tells the story. One distinction is between pinched nerves (which generally is ONE side, asymmetric and goes from near the centre of the body outward) and sick nerves which goes from the end of the longest nerves back. Chemotherapy often produces sick nerves. Nerve conduction studies might show sick nerves; nothing else will.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
