Could White Vaginal Discharge Along With Itching Be Due To Yeast Infection?
I ve recently begun having sex (It s been a few months now). I ve developed a yeast infection (my discharge is like cottage cheese and my vagina s itchy). This is the first time I ve ever had an infection of any kind. I m currently residing out of province for school and don t have easy access to a doctor to get a diagnosis. Can I just go pick up a yeast infection treatment at the drug store and use that? Also, I m on my period right now, should I wait till it s over before beginning the treatment?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Discharge with cottage cheese appearance is characteristic for yeast infection. A swab test will help you rule out that also. If you were my patient with such condition then I would recommend using clotrimazole cream (monistat) for local application. It is available over the counter also. If no improvement then fluconazole tab orally weekly once for 1 month will help. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
