Cyst In The Ovary. Birth Control Pills Prescribed. How Fast Will It Start Working?
Hello, I am 25 years old and about a week ago I found out that I have a cyst of 4.8 cm on my left ovary. My doctor gave me birth control to take for a week before having another ultra sound and determining whether or not I will require surgery. The pain seems to be subsiding. Could the birth control already be working to shrink the cyst after three days?
Hello, It looks unlikely that these birth control pills will have shrinkage effect in three days.Normalky these birth control pills are given for 3 to 4 cycles. If size reduces or if there is no other problem, then it can be left and monitored serially. But if there are symptoms like... Pain abdomen Pelvic pain Pelvic pain before or after periods Disturbance in bowel or urinary habits. Or if the size of cyst increases, then the best would be to go for surgery. Normally cysts bigger than 5 cm are surgically removed. Thanks
