Dark Brown Mucus Discharge, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Done Ultrasound. What Is Wrong?

So, I usually get my period on day 33 of my cycle give or take 2 or 3 days, but this month I got this dark brown discharge stuff instead. That usually shows up a couple hours before the normal red flow shows up, but I have been having this brown mucus for 8 days now. It was heavier in the beginning, but it is day 8 now and is very light but with globs of tacky, sticky dark brown mucus maybe once a day. I was wondering what this is. Should I ask a doctor? I have never had sex and I won't for 8 more months which will be my wedding night. I am not on any hormones or anything like that. This has never happened to me before; my periods are usually very normal. I've heard that it could be a result of polycystic ovary syndrome, but I got my ovaries checked out on an ultrasound 2 months and it was normal. Anything will help. I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with me.

Hello
Thanks for your query.
Just an ultrasound would not rule out polycystic ovaries.
It is a metabolic condition, and requires hormonal testing to confirm the diagnosis - tests such as FSH, LH, DHEAS, free testosterone, fasting serum insulin, glucose tolerance test etc.
Hypothyroidism, endometrial hyperplasia - these are two other conditions that could cause such spotting.
Also, stress, anxiety, ingestion of hormonal medications, travelling, weight gain - these are other possible causes.
Please consult a gynecologist for exact diagnosis and treatment.
Take care.
