Diabetic, Difficulty In Sleeping At Night Due To Excessive Hunger, Heavy Craving For Chocolates. Suggestion?

I stay up as long as I can every night, do not want to go to bed. I sleep for one hour and wake up starving. I eat. Then I wake up at least every 2 hours and I get up & bring food back to bed, usually chocolate and I wake up with it all over me and in my mouth, melting down my throat . Sometimes it is honey nut cheerios. I crave chocolate unbelievably all through the day and I am diabetic.

Hello,
It is not unusual and quite common for a diabetic o feel excessive hunger.
In a diabetic state the insulin level in the blood is not normal and thus the body cells are not able to get essential amount of energy to perform daily activities resulting in unusual hunger in order to fulfill the lack of energy.

Although long-term complications of diabetes develop gradually, they can eventually be disabling or even life-threatening. Some of the potential complications of diabetes include:
Heart and blood vessel disease
Kidney damage( nephropathy )
Eye disease
Nerve damage ( neuropathy ) etc.

I would advise you to consult a diabetologist and take proper medications to control your diabetes.
Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for writing to us.

I know it is sometimes difficult to control your cravings.

Following dietary recommendations is one of the most difficult things to do especially when one is a diabetic.

However having said all that for your longevity you MUST follow dietary recommendations.

The reason why I say that is simple and that is because if you continue to eat like this your blood glucose will soon become haywire and then you may end up in the emergency department for an acute complication of diabetes due to very high glucose levels such as diabetic ketoacidosis or nonketotic hyperosmolar state.

I am not saying this to scare you but just to give you the facts of what lies ahead of you and what you should do to live a longer and healthier life with diabetes.

Kindest Regards
