His last glucose reading was 235 though its normally under control. He has been taking multivitamin tab Revital as well. his Pus cell count is 5-6 cells. What could be the cause for it? General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
the swelling/joint pain might have nothing to do with the presence of pus cells in
the urine. The interpretation of presence of pus cells in urine deserve other parameters. Presence of one or two pus cells in urine might not actually indicate the presence of a urinary tract infection. A urine cast with identification of other cells, bacteria are required to make a diagnosis. a urinalysis positive for pus cells and nitrites however are diagnostic of a urinary tract infection. A urine culture and sensitivity testing shall be the gold standard to be if there is a urinary tract infection or not.
Joint pains and swelling should point first to an inflammatory/rheumatologic disease. Consulting your internist/diabetologist for a proper review and control of glycemic control is important. Poorly controlled diabetes favours recurrent urinary tract infections.
I strongly suggest you consult your diabetologist/internist for a proper evaluation and management.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
