Diagnosed With Acute Pancreatitis. Feeling Week And Fatigue. On Liquid Diet. Worrisome

My husband has been diagnoised with acute pancreatitis . He does not have pain right now but is throwing up and is very weak and fatigued. I took his blood pressure and it is 117 over 55 with a pluse rate of 85. He is 68 years old and he seems to take two steps forward and three steps back. He is on a liquid diet but cannot seem to keep even water or even pedialite down. Should I be worried?

Hello,
Your husband's diastolic blood pressure is much less than normal although the systolic is within normal limits. Since he cannot take anything and is throwing up, I feel it would be best if institutional care is provided to him at this point of time to avoid dehydration and other complications that might ensue. In many cases, if the symptoms are prolonged, recourse might be on parenteral nutrition as to ensure that the nutrient supply is kept intact. Check with your surgeon immediately.
