Diagnosed With Athletic Heart Syndrome. Was A Player. Had Cardiac Ablations. Heart Has Signs Of AHS, Ventricle Thickennig. AHS Symptoms?

I was diagnosed with athletic heart syndrome when I was in my 20's. I was a tri-athlete and semi-pro volleyball player into my forties. Now in my mid fifties and no longer active I have had two cardiac ablations for arrythmias, I am scheduled for a third ablation next week. My heart still is showing signs of AHS, left ventricle thickennig, enlarged size, slow at rest pulse, and irregular beats, as well as long pause( up to 3 sec). I have not been excersicing regularly for many years. Are these continuances of the AHS symptons usual for athletes this long after they have stopped training?

You need to consider a couple of things here, as you are going for the third application I believe the first two application where are not completely successful. you have pause of 3seconds which are clinically significant. search for this may be because search for this may be because of damage to conducting pathway, however the pathological pathways maybe left intact partially leading to your the current symptoms. Incomplete ablation is not very uncommon as pathways are not easy every time to ablate them completely ,,considering the history you gave of 3 seconds pause , I suggest you to do holter monitoring test and then take call if pacemaker comes into picture.

General & Family Physician Dr. Veera Raghava Rao Buddha.'s  Response
Hi, the symptoms of the heart are due to the condition of the heart, but not due to the activities of the atheletics. As the tissues of the heart become thick and weak, it can't perform the activities upto the mark, and the tissues and functions are mostly maintained, and cant be corrected, hence the syptoms are maintained. Thank you.
