Diagnosed With Bulge In Vertebrae. Have Numbness In Left Thumb And Forefinger. Diabetic. Can I Take NSAID?

OK, I didn't expect this, but here goes. I have been diagnosed with a bulge between c5&c6, and c6&c7. I have had x rays and an MRI without contrast. I have numbness in my left thumb and forefinger, and a throb in my left forearm (I'm left handed, so this hasn't been easy.) I am type 2 diabetic. Can I take an NSAID pain releiver (Alleve, etc.) for pain, and will this numbness and pain go away with physical therapy?

Hi
Thanks for your query.
You may use NSAIDs for a short duration for relief from acute pain.
Their long term use is not recommended for two reasons: it does not cure the disease process and it can cause significant problems like kidney damage, gastritis etc.
Physiotherapy would be useful once the pain reduces.
I recommend that you see an orthopaedician who would be able to prescribe medications like gabapentin and see if you need any other interventions.
Hope this helps
Good luck
