Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe psychiatric disorder. I can understand your concern regarding your brother illness. The basic pathology in this illness is increase dopaminergic neuro-transmission in brain.
It is treatable condition and behavior improved after treatment. It is treated with medicines which decrease dopamine neuro-transmission.
This condition should be treated after adequate assessment by treatment with medicines (like antipsychotics).
In symptomatic phase of illness patient do not have insight regarding illness, so they deny for treatment, in such cases depot injections or medicines in food are helpful.
Dear
Sorry to have you hear.
Very sorry to hear that your brother is diagnosed with Schizophrenia .
Schizophrenia is a moderate to severe psychic disorder.
You need to really take care of your brother.
You must evaluate the stage of your brother's Schizophrenia
This can be done by a series of tests by a clinical psychologist
Then suitable psycho therapeutic techniques can be used along with psychiatric medications.
Wish your brother speedy recovery.
Hi
Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic
Schizophrenia is a chronic psychotic illness with remissions and exacerbations. During the acute phase of illness patient may sometimes be aggressive and use abusive language. However with treatment all these symptoms improve and he can lead a completely normal life with medication. He needs to continue medication and be under regular followup with a psychiatrist. The usual duration of treatment required is 2 to 5 years but sometimes lifelong. Many patients with schizophrenia get married and lead a normal life. However there is a slightly higher risk that the children may get similar illness when compared to general population. But it is not true that always all the children of schizophrenia get the illness. There has been a lot of progress in science and fortunately there are several good medications for schizophrenia. So without worrying consult a good psychiatrist
Thanks and regards
