Difference Between Medicated And Non Medicated Stents? Any Medication Required To Keep The Blood Thin?
Hello! I hope all is well. I want to have your openion regarding medicated and non-madicated stents. What is the difference between the two kind of stents and second if patient may place medicated stents then she will have to take some medicine to keep blood thin or either is in both cases medicated and non-medicated stents patient will remain on medication for keeping blood thin. Kindly waiting for your openion before to proceed ahead.
Hello and thanks for the query
Patient has to take all the medications including blood thinner in both the stents implantation. The difference between the two stents is that after the stents implantation medicated stents has less chances of being blocked. Medicated stents has 2-3% chances of being blocked and non-medicated stents has 6-10% chances.
It is the medicine that is released from the stent and prevent it from getting blocked. Now a days medicated stents are frequently used instead of non-medicated stents.
Hope you got your answer.
Best Wishes
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
If you have coronary artery disease and undergo angigraphy this we must know that if there is significant lesion in arteries it is dialated by angioplasty and to prevent blocking that is restenosis a metal stent is placed there .
In both medicated and bare metal stent you have to take medicines to keep blood thin like asprin and clopidogrel.
In general Drug eluting stents are claimed to have less chances of restenosis.
There is one more thing these medicated stents are costly and increase the cost of procedure.
If some one has multiple blocks in coronary arteries alternativel mat be CABG that is bypass surgery.
The drug which used for coating is paclitaxel.
Your Cardiologist will be best person to explain to you what is best for you.
You can always take a second opinion if there is any doubt .
Please take care
Good luck.
