Diluted Esophagus After A Gastrocopy. Chest Pains After Eating Solid Food. Was Directed To Take Clear Fluids
My 22 year old son had a gastroscopy 3 days ago and they diluted his osesphagus but because it was so narrow they said they may need to do procedure again in 4 weeks. He was supposed to be on clear fluids for 2 days but after 1 day was so hungry started eating. He s starting to have mild chest pains, what is causing this?
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there appears to be possibility of esophageal stricture caused by reflux of acid.
At times, this esophageal stricture is idiopathic with no reason for stricture.
Does your son has past history of acidic belching/ accidental ingestion of acid orally/ difficulty in opening in mouth?
The only treatment available for esophageal stricture is dilatation of food pipe with use of SG dilator.
You should follow the recommended pathway as suggested by treating doctor.
He should remain empty stomach till the procedure and progressive use of high no of dilator for widening of food pipe.
He should take proton pump inhibitors for decreasing acid production.
take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
