my son had tubes put in his ears January 7th 2011 and tonight there is a slimy liquid discharge coming out of the one ear should i take him to ER or is this normal??
There is no need to go to an ER. If there are no other symptoms, arrange for a routine check-up because he has this discharge only from one ear. The middle ear behind the eardrum is always 'wet' under normal conditions due to mucus. The mucoid discharge that you see has come out through the ventilation tubes inserted through the eardrum. Hence this may be normal or the consequence of a mild cold (upper respiratory tract infection).
