Hi and welcome to HCM,
Dry socket is dull aching condition of the extraction socket caused due to dislodgement of blood clot , which exposes the alveolar bone to the oral environment making it prone to infection.
This inflammatory condition delays wound healing leading to pain, discomfort and restricted mouth opening.
this condition is usually seen after 2 to 3 days post extraction , if you have any of these symptoms you are suspected to have dry socket and it needs evaluation by a dentist.
As you mentioned you have no pain and discomfort till now ,it is a good sign and indicates wound healing.
it takes 7 to 10 days usually for complete closure and healing of the socket so maintain good oral hygiene , use lukewarm saline water for oral rinsing to prevent infection.
take care

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
After the removal of teeth blood clot is formed within half an hour which is first stage of healing.
Usually when blood clot is lost it ends up with formation of dry socket which is a delayed healing.
Use lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine for mouth rinsing .
I would advise you to see your dentist immediately get the area irrigated with betadine solution and placement of zinc oxide eugenol pack on the extracted site will help in healing the socket .
This has to be followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesics .
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
The typical dry socket produces a dull pain that doesn't appear until three or four days after the tooth has been extracted.
What MAYBE happened with you is that an external part of clot felt down - considering that you had no pain. Don't try touch or put anything at the site where you removed your tooth, let your body heal. If you try, great chances to get an infection and dry sockets. If you have any problems, better make a checkup at dentist before get something worse!
Use lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine for mouth rinsing .
do no hurt the area or apply tooth brush over it .
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
Usually lost blood clot suggests of delayed healing of the socket and the surgical site. As you have no pain on the 4th day it could heal by itself .
I would suggest you to see your dentist and get the extracted area examined to see whether there are signs of formation of dry socket , like it appears whitish on the surgical site .
If so , then it has to be irrigated with betadine solution and zinc oxide eugenol pack should be placed which will promote the healing .
Hope this information helps you.

If the clot is dislodged you can have very painful condition known as dry socket. Try taking soft and liquid food options such as soups, mashed potatoes, yogurts, milkshakes, smoothies etc. Avoid hot drinks, spicy foods, sodas, etc. Remember to take plenty of fluids.Don’t skip the medicines. If antibiotics are prescribed then they should be taken regularly. Pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs help in reducing the pain and swelling. Chewing of food from the side of extraction should be avoided as this can irritate the extraction wound which can cause bleeding. You can use warm saline rinses or the mild antiseptic mouth wash as prescribed by the dentist.

hello & welcome
first of all don't panic, dry socket will cause a spontaneous dull pain, and that is very disturbing, as you are not feeling any type of pain so no need to worry, rest be careful of your oral hygiene, keep on doing warm saline rinses and betadine rinses.
and if you feel any pain than visit to your dentist for further assistance.
thanks & take care.

dear friend

thanks for sharing your concern.

friend, it could be a granulation tissue too.how do you know its a blood clot only?

as you have mentioned your dentist has put sutures too after your surgical procedure.

therefore there are very less chances of clot getting dislodged here,
until vigrous rinsing is prformed or any other such act.

a case of dry socket presents dull aching pain.its an infection of the healing socket.you may suspect dry socket if you have such pain and symptoms.

in this case its good to visit your dentist for post extraction evaluation.

hope this helps.

thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Dry socket is a painful condition of jaw seen due to dislodgement of blood clot from extraction socket which exposes the alveolar bone to the oral environment leading to infection.
The condition usually develops 2 to 3 days post extraction and presents with pain, discomfort ,difficulty in opening mouth and sometimes fowl mouth odour due to infection.
If you still find the symptoms of dry socket ,to need to visit a dentist and get the area packed with zinc oxide eugenol dressing which is replaced every 2 or 3 days till symptoms sub side.
