Dizziness On Sitting, Standing, Causes Anxiety. History Of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Low BP. Suggestions?
My mother aged 66 gets intense dizzy spells with no change in position (eg while sitting or stnding). She has rheumatoid arthritis and low BP . The dizzy spells last under a minute but leave her very anxious. She has had this problem for abt 2 to 3 years but lately it has increased in frequency. She had 3 dizzy spells today. Please advice?
After reading your post, it seems that your mother might be having orthostatic hypotension also known as postural hypotension. In this blood pressure falls due to change in posture leading to decrease in blood flow to the brain resulting in dizziness.
She should maintain her blood pressure. She should have a healthy diet.
Following investigations can be helpful :- 1. Hemoglobin levels. 2. Serum electrolytes. 3. Electrocardiogram(ECG). 4. CT/MRI of head and neck.
She should not change her position in a fast manner. She should do postural changes slowly.
If the problem persists, get yourself clinically examined.
I hope this is helpful to you. Thanks.
