Do Probiotics Cause Dry Heaves During Defecation?

Hi! For the past 5-6 mos I have occasionally experienced dry heaves during a bowel movement. I can t relate this to any particular food or activity. This happens maybe once a week, occasionally twice. I have also gone weeks without it occurring. I stopped taking probiotics because I had changed brands & it seemed to be better although I did have 1-2 episodes. I started taking a different brand of probiotics again and the problem has returned more frequently again. I had a colonoscopy & an endoscopy within the past 2 yrs and everything was fine. Is it possible that the probiotics are causing this problem? Thank you.

Hello,

Probiotics are unlikely to cause heaves. Probiotics help to improve bowel movements since they have good bacteria which inhibit the harmful bacteria.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
