I am a 43 year old woman who recently had blood work done. My doctor informed me that my amylase level wer high (156). He asked if I had been drinking excessive alcohol. I informed him that I have been drinking 1 -2 glasses of red wine every evening over the past few months. However, I hadn't had any alcohol two weeks prior to the doctor's visit. I also, have added Chia seeds to my diet. Could this have caused my the high amylase levels. All of my other lab work was fine.

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows: 1. No chia seeds do not cause high amylase levels 2. Alcohol induced damage will be present for more than a month. 3. Stopping prior or 2 weeks prior, wont help. High amylase levels is due to liver damage.
Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
