Do Cortisone Injections Have Any Long-lasting Ill Effects On The Body?

Are there any long lasting ill effects as a result of having cortisone injections? Almost every time I ve had these I ve experienced heavy vaginal bleeding for at least a week. Twice I had a d&c afterwards upon recommendation of gyno. Had the injections to alleviate knee pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Cortisone shots commonly cause a temporary flare in pain and inflammation for up to 48 hours after the injection.

After that, your pain and inflammation of the affected joint should decrease and can last up to several months.

These injections do not have vaginal bleeding as a side effect. I recommend seeing a gynaecologist for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
