My daughter 27 years old recently dyed her hair, she has done it before but I noticed her skin and parts of her body darkened? She is African-American and light brown skinned. Can dyes cause darkening or do you think there may be another medical issue? Concerned Mom Email: YYYY@YYYY
Your daughter dyed hairs and after that she developed pigmentation on various parts of the body. Dye contains paraphenylenediamine (PPD). This chemical after applying the dye on hairs and scalp may be absorbed in blood. And that would be deposited in various parts of the body including skin. And, thus the dye may be responsible for dark color of the skin. PPD is a toxic chemical causing various diseases . Irritant and allergic contact dermatitis, hypermelanosis ,malignancies, internal diseases..etc may be caused by PPD. So, I advise to stop to dye the hairs. And you may take glutathion, vitamin C and nicotinic acid tablets to improve the color of the skin. Kojic acid contaning soap may be used while bathing. She might be improved in color
Thanks.
