Do I Need A Blood Thinner If I Have Fast Heart Rate?

i am a 44 year old woman with afib a couple days ago my heart was beating 178 beats aminute i was brought by ambulance to a local hospital. i am on cartizam and rythmol my cardiologist just changed my rythmol from 225mg to 425mg i am not on a bloodthinner i was taking pradaxa about 5 months ago was only on it about a month my cardiologist said it was over kill to just take a baby aspirin a day. my question is do you agree doctor at urgent care did not agree i should be on a blood thinner and what is the long term affect on my heart with afib very scared i get different answers to this it scares me that it beats so fast how much can this take on one's heart i was told by my cardiologist it will not affect the heart if it was racing all the time than yes it would put stress on the heart.

I have gone through your query.Thanks for using HCM.
Basically afib may have some underlying cause like valvular heart disease etc. so i need to know your echo report and complete work up to rule out any cause for afib.I presume that you have Lone Afib. means there is no apparent underlying cause.
You are already getting medicines which controls rate,but you must take blood thinner like pradaxa to avoid risk of stroke/paralysis.Baby aspiring is not as much protective as proved by clinical trials.so i suggest you should take it.
