Do Leucocytes Count Indicate A Leukemoid Reaction Or Chronic Myeloid Leukemia?
Patient was detected to have total leucocytes count 61000/cumm before having laproscopic cholecystectomy. After operation TLC moved to 77000/cumm. Neutrophil ALKALINE pHOSPHATASE IS 240. PERIPHERAL BLOOD SMEAR SHOW 15-20 IMMATURE LEUCOCYTES &BONE marrow is hypercellular &inconclusive.CT scan of abdomen &chest is normal. what is your opinion whether it is leukamoid reaction or chronic myeloid leukaemia .
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. It appears to be a possible myeloid leukemia. 2. Bone marrow blasts count is necessary to identify whether is acute or chronic leukemia. 3. Clinical correlation with bone marrow biopsy, immuno phenotyping and molecular diagnosis is necessary. So much of blast cells, is not leukemoid reaction. For Chronic myeloid leukemia, further details are necessary. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
