Do Men Get Breast Cancer ?

Men also have a chance of getting breast cancer but it is very less (around 1%). The various risk factors for breast cancer are:
1. family history of breast or ovarian cancer
2. Klinefelter's syndrome: genetic disorder in which the testis dont function properly and the patient has a 20 times risk of breast cancer
3. Radiation exposure
4. Alcohol
5. Liver cirrhosis

Breast cancer in males usually presents as a lump in the breast which increases in size. In case of any such lump, it is best to get yourself evaluated by a surgeon.

Men have 1 in 15 chance of breast cancer if they have that defect in their genes.


Breast cancer is most common in men age 60 to 70.

Excessive use of alcohol. causes greater risk of breast cancer.

Oestrogen drugs may also be used in hormone therapy for prostate cancer which can cause breast cancer in men.

Family history of breast cancer of a close family member with breast cancer, greater chance of developing the disease.

Liver disease such as cirrhosis of the liver, the body's male hormones may be reduced and its female hormones may be increased. This can increase your risk of breast cancer.

Obesity may be a risk factor for breast cancer in men, because it increases the number of fat cells in the body. Fat cells convert androgens into oestrogen, which may increase the amount of estrogen in your body and, therefore, your risk of breast cancer.

Radiation exposure to the chest, such as those used to treat cancers in the chest, you're more likely to develop breast cancer later in life.
