I just found out my mother has lung cancer with spots on her liver and kidneys. She sees a specialist this week but I was wondering what is the survival rate for something like this? Will they treat it or just make her comfortable. She is only 59 and a smoker, could this be caused by the cigarettes?
Yes, smoking increases one's risk of developing lung cancer. Regarding her survival chances, many factors are important and her doctor would be better placed to hazard a guess. But these days, many anticancer treatments are available which remarkably prolong survival.
Best wishes.
