Do You Suggest Iodine Supplements For Hypothyroid Patients?
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid and I have been told recently after my blood work that my my T cells are elevated. I have been raised from 75 to 100mg of levothyrocin. Should I look into an Iodine supplement, I have been hearing alot about Iodine deficiency in thyroid problems.
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern. Iodine supplements aren’t indicated before you determine the cause of the hypothyroidism. When hypothyroidism is from iodine deficiency it is recommendable iodized salt, sea foods and iodine supplements. When the cause is Hashimoto disease the recommendable is to avoid the iodine supplements and you should choose the hormonal therapy replacement, but as I said before I recommend you to determine the cause of hypothyroidism doing other specifics test like anti-TPO(anti thyroid peroxidase antibody)detected in Hashimoto disease and consulting by an endocrinologist. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Kind regard, Dr .Marsida Janko
