Does Anafranil Help In The Treatment Of Depression?

I take zoloft, lexapro, xanax. I was put on Anafranil for a short time and stopped taking it due to Pancreatic problems unrelated. I ve been a Deputy sheriff for 19 years and suffer quite a bit from things I ve seen. I started taking Anafranil again and still have two refills. I figure I ll tell my Doctor next week. Can this help my depression?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there. Thanks for your concern.
Anafranil is a tricyclic antidepressant and these days are used to aid in sleep for people who suffer from insomnia. From what you describe you may be having chronic PTSD, and anafranil has been shown to have an effect.
You are already on 2 antidepressants, the Zoloft and Lexapro. I suggest that you ask your doctor if these medications are at optimal doses for the depression. Regardingyour job and stressors you have had, getting therapy might not be a bad idea as that with combined oral treatment has the best outcomes.
