Does BMR(basal Metabolic Rate)effect The Body Temperature?
my bmr is high. At times my body temp starts going upto 37.2/37.3 when I start doing work or go out for the market or even to office. In the office it stays at the same and gradually reduces in the evening to 37/36.9. I think I have ahigh BMR because my food intake is high but I am not fat. Does high BMR also effect body temp. I am 52 yrs.Pl advice height 5ft 11inches, no medical history except BP WHICH REMAINS NORMAL WITH ONE TABLET OF ERITEL H and one beta cap 20 daily from 6 months and only beta cap from 10 yrs
Hello and welcome to HCM, Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is controlled predominantly thyroid gland. A high BMR is seen in hyperthyroidism and low BMR is seen in hypothyroidism. However, the core body temperature is not affected by BMR. Increase in body temperature occurs in conditions like fever, heat stroke etc. Increased BMR causes high heart rate, anxiousness, sweating, increased appetite, loss of weight etc and opposite occurs in case of low BMR.
In case your body temperature is raised, it is suggestive of fever rather than high BMR.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
