Does Carafate Cause Blurred Vision?

Yes, my husband is having episodes of blurry vision and dizziness for almost 5 days now. His vision clears and then it happens again. He has tried to get an appt. with his opthimologist, but it hasn t happened yet. He was recently put on carafate after a colonoscopy. Could that medicine cause the vision issue? I read it can cause the dizziness.

Thank you for asking on HealthcareMagic.com, providing better healthcare for you & your family! Carafate (sucralfate) is generally very well tolerated, only 2% to 3% of patients experience side effects. Yes, dizziness or lightheadedness is a side effect of Carafate (sucralfate) due to aluminum accumulation. Your husband should discontinue this drug, and I would prescribe Omeprazole 20mg daily to protect the stomach.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Wishing you good health.
