Does Champix With Chronic Medication Has Any Side Effects?
Hi ,I want to give up smoking and want to try Champix, I did try Zyban a couple of years ago but had a side effect of " numb face" when I took Zyban. I am on chronic meds - Premarin 0,3 mg daily (have been taking them for 10 years) and Eltroxin 0.05mg and Eltroxin 0.1 mg daily alternating the 2 doses. I would like to know if Champix with my chronic medication will have any side effects?
No, chantix doesn't have many drug interactions and the medications you are mentioning have considerable safety margin. However, Chantix does block nicotine. While the original studies on it did not show much mental effects (they were done on non-smokers!) there are increasing reports of mental changes from Chantix (at least partly because it pushes you into cold turkey). The chantix manufacturers recommend cutting down on cigarettes prior to use.
No interaction with thyroid medicine but it sure will have side effects if you are on a lot of cigarettess a day. It is a blocker of nicotine that puts you into cold turkey right away. If you are on over a pack a day, that can be quite a decrease.
