Does Doxycycline Hyclate Cause Allergic Skin Rashes?
My husband is on Doxycycline Hyclate 100. mgTaking one tablet two times a day. He is allergic to Penicillin and any derivative. He is breaking out with a horrible skin rash and he has taken oral benadryl. Is there any connection with penicillin to Doxcycline ? Email address. YYYY@YYYY
Penicillin and Doxycycline are two different group of antibiotics.
Penicillin belongs to Penicillin group while Doxycycline is a Tetracycline group of antibiotic. But if there is an outbreak of rash even on taking Doxycycline then probably he is getting an allergic reaction.
So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room or an Allergist and get evaluated. A blood test can be done to check for compatible antibiotics. For now you can stop Doxycycline, if the Physician permits as you have not mentioned the cause of taking Doxycycline.
Hope this helps
Regards
