Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a serum creatinine of 2.0 mg/dl. My GFR is not normal. I take 200 mcg of GTF Chromium daily. I am concerned that the chromium has damaged my kidnys. I'vr been taken this supplement for more than 5 years. I am considering stop taking it. What do you think. Vincent Finlay YYYY
The chromium found in foods will not hurt you because it is in normal amount and that much is also needed for body. However taking excessive chromium supplements can lead to stomach problems and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). In some cases too much chromium from supplements can also damage the liver, kidneys, and nerves, and it may cause irregular heart rhythm.
I would suggest you to stop taking it and look for another substitute.
Thanks Dr. Tripat Mehta
