Does Gabapentin Makes Cymbalta Less Effective?

Does gabapentin negate cymbalta? My sister has taken 120 mg of cymbalyta for depression for several years and has had excellent results. She recently had knee replacement surgery and was given gabapentin for nerve pain. For the past week all she has done is cry and feels like she is having a mental breakdown. She did this one other time when she took tramadol for pain.

Cymbalta (duloxetine) does not seem to have any major interaction with Gabapentine that can cause these symptoms. But gabapentin alone can at times produce such symptoms. So, the above side effects may be entirely due to gabapentin without any interaction with Cymbalta.
I would recommend alternatives like pregabalin or any opioids for pain if the current condition is too serious to manage. You can discuss the above information with your care giver. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks.
