Does Ibuprofen Interact With Nabumetone?

Hi, my mother is 80 years old and has been prescribed Nabumetone 750 mg for her extreme pain in her knee caused by her rheumatoid arthritis. My question is if she took an Ibuprofen 800mg at 5pm and will like to begin her Nabumetone to see if it help her severe arthritis pain, is it okay to start now? or does she have to wait and if she does what time can she start Nabumetone. Please advise. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ibuprofen and nabumetone are NSAIDs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and analgesics, or pain relievers. The have the same effects on the system, so they usually do not interact. Even though, I suggest to use one of them to lower the risk of overdose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
