Does Influenza Suffering Person Has Excruciating Pain In The Right Foot With A Soft Lump?

My 22 year old son was recently diagnosed with influenza and his chief complaint at this time is excruciating pain in the right foot with a soft lump lateral to the arch. Is this simply coincidental or something that should be investigated? It does hurt to bear weight. The area does not appear to be swollen or bruised but a definite lump, slightly larger than pea-sized is palpable.

Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Typical influenza disease is associated with symptoms like fever, headache, myalgia and respiratory symptoms are common. Abdominal pain and vomiting can occur in children. There is no co relation between lump in foot and influenza. I suggest you get that lump examined by a doctor nearby you as it is tender and your son is not able bear weight on it. Some swellings like swelling of nerve sheaths do present like this, but they are usually non tender.
Please get the lump examined as soon as possible and it has nothing to do with Influenza.
Thanks.
