Does LMP Or Ultrasound Give Accurate Gestational Age?

Hi, I m 7th week pregnant. But the ultra sound shows the empty womb and tvs scan shows the sac in 11.8mm and it indicates 4weeks and two days in 7th week. I had a miscarriage before 8 month due to no fetal heart beat. What will be the reasons for these problem? My doctor says it will be genetic problem. Please give the answer doctor.

Hi,

I would recommend you to repeat the ultrasound in 4 weeks. It is common that we think according to our LMP that we are of certain gestational age but the ultrasound shows it different, in this case the ultrasound in the early pregnancy is more accurate then the LMP.

It generally takes at least 5 weeks before gestation is well identified in the ultrasound examination so repeating it in 2 weeks will help understand what is going on. Please make sure you use folic acid daily as well for a healthier pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
