Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I feel dehydrated waking up with dry mouth dry alot of the day. I am drinking 3-4 1 pint bottles water per day limit caffiene, and urine is pale yellow to clear. I take thyroid medication levoxthorine .25 & allegra half tablet daily could this cause dehydration.
As per your complain Dry mouth or Xerostomia can occur due to a number of causes and in your case both thyroid medication like Levothyroxine and Allegra are both seen to cause dry mouth.. As at night the frequency of water intake goes down therefore dryness is more apparent when you get up in morning.. Consult your treating physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis.. In case if Medication are found to be culprit then reducing the dose can help.. As of now: -For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums.. -Drink plenty of water. -Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene.. -You can also instil artificial saliva drops.. -Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..
Hope this information helps..
Regards..
